How it is calculated
Full capacity = πr² × axis length. Vertical liquid volume = πr² × level. Horizontal volume uses the circular-segment area multiplied by axis length.
Worked example
A cylinder with 2 m diameter and 3 m axis length holds 3π ≈ 9.4248 m³ when full. Horizontally filled to 1 m, it contains half that volume, about 4.7124 m³.
Before you calculate
Use internal dimensions and select orientation before entering the level. In a vertical tank, the axis length is its height; in a horizontal tank it is its length. Liquid level must not exceed the vertical height or horizontal diameter.
Interpreting the result
The shape is an ideal cylinder without domed ends, internal obstructions or deformation. This is a geometric estimate and does not evaluate pressure, support, strength or safe filling limits. Calibration may be required for inventory or dosing.
