How it is calculated
Litres = area in m² × depth in cm × 10 × (1 + allowance/100). Bags = ceiling(litres / litres per bag).
Worked example
A 12 m² area covered to 5 cm requires 600 L before allowance. With 50 L bags, that is twelve bags.
Before you calculate
Measure the usable planting area and the planned uniform layer thickness. Enter the bag's labelled loose volume. An extra allowance can account for an intentional purchase reserve, but avoid treating a nominal depth as a universal recommendation for every plant.
Interpreting the result
The model does not predict settling, decomposition or soil response. Keep mulch suitability and clearance from plant stems under separate consideration. Local conditions and the chosen product determine an appropriate application depth.
Use the units shown beside each field. Monetary fields labelled EUR stay in euros; changing language does not exchange currencies. Results are estimates under the stated assumptions.
