How it is calculated

Litres = area × coats / coverage × (1 + allowance/100). Cans = ceiling(litres / can capacity). Calculate primer and finish separately.

Worked example

Painting 10 m² with two coats at 10 m²/L needs 2 L before allowance. Buying 0.75 L cans requires three cans, providing 2.25 L.

Before you calculate

Estimate the exposed area of the parts to be painted, including edges where relevant. Product coverage is per coat and should match the substrate and application method. Enter primer, undercoat and topcoat in separate calculations if their coverage differs.

Interpreting the result

Absorption, texture, sanding and application losses can change actual coverage. Whole-can rounding shows purchase quantity, not guaranteed practical coverage. Follow the paint manufacturer's preparation, drying and safety guidance.

Use the units shown beside each field. Monetary fields labelled EUR stay in euros; changing language does not exchange currencies. Results are estimates under the stated assumptions.
