How it is calculated

Slope % = rise / horizontal distance × 100. Angle = arctan(rise / horizontal distance) × 180/π. Inclined length = √(rise² + distance²).

Worked example

A rise of 1 m over 10 horizontal metres gives 10 %, approximately 5.71° and 10.05 m of inclined length.

Before you calculate

Enter vertical rise and horizontal distance in metres. The horizontal distance is not the inclined length.

Interpreting the result

Use nonnegative rise and positive horizontal distance. Percent slope is not an angle in degrees; accessibility and structural rules are not assessed.

Use the units shown beside each field. Monetary fields labelled EUR stay in euros; changing language does not exchange currencies. Results are estimates under the stated assumptions.
